5 Tricks to Make Your Face Look Slimmer

These days, there’s a makeup trick for anything and everything; higher cheekbones, smaller foreheads and a personal favorite, a slimmer face. There’s just something about a slimmer, sleeker complexion that makes one’s self esteem shoot straight up. Want to make your face look a little more chiseled? Whip out your makeup brush and get ready to channel your inner Picasso with these fool-proof tricks to make your face look sleek and slim in minutes.

Crack open any magazine and you’re bound to flip through a bevy of slim faces dotted with perfectly chiseled cheekbones and noses. Unfortunately for us women of the real-world variety, perfecting our bone structure and hitting the gym religiously aren’t always a reality. If your face is feeling a little rounder than you’d like, here are my 5 professional makeup artist tips to make your face look slimmer instantly—no treadmill time required.

1. Wake Up With Tea

Early morning tea time is a great way to get rid of any bloating or puffiness in the skin. Peppermint and ginger are both known to help get rid of excess bloat. No tea on hand? No problem. Heat warm water on the stove and squeeze some fresh lemon for taste.

2. Prime the Skin

Using a brightening and tightening primer before makeup can instantly tighten skin and help decrease puffiness. Say goodbye to large pores and dehydrated complexion. I like Merle Norman's Foundation Primer Plus SPF 15...It's about prime! This luxurious, silky gel primer helps skin look and feel as smooth as glass while extending the wear of makeup. Experience an instant blurring effect as polymers fill in lines, wrinkles and pores, making them virtually disappear! Powerful anti-aging ingredients like Vitamins A, C and E Derivatives, Green Tea Extract and sunscreen help protect skin. Oligopeptides help promote skin firmness.

3. Contour

One of the quickest ways to make your face appear slimmer is to contour. Using a flat brush, apply a contouring blush or powder (matte preferably) in a soft line angled down your cheeks. Start slowly with this, and keep blending to avoid any harsh lines. You can also use the same trick on each side of your nose to help it appear smaller as well.

4. Bronze

Bronzer and tanning products have an instant slimming effect on the face and body. Use a sheer bronzer to highlight the skin after contouring for a healthy glow that accentuates light in all the right places. Apply with a powder brush in the shape of the number 3, along the forehead, cheek, and jawline. Try Merle Norman's Bronzing Powder in Beach Side or Pool Side.

5. Illuminate

Applying a sheer highlighter under the eyes and down the nose for a brightening effect will cause the contoured  and bronzed part of your face to stand out more. This creates a shape that is natural, slimming, and flattering.
My fav is Merle Norman's Liquid Shimmer. This light reflecting liquid beautifully highlights the face with advanced HD pigment technology. Created with a signature blend of micronized pigments, it enhances and complements all skin tones. These iridescent pigments are also multi-dimensional to naturally catch and reflect light. Further enhanced with Apple Extract Complex, which helps make this formula smooth as silk. It can be mixed with any foundation for soft, all-over radiance, or used to highlight specific areas such as brow bones, cheekbones, bridge of nose or wherever you want a light catching accent.
